So She Did by Simi Genziuk

Thu 20 June 2019

This week's Story of the Week, So She Did, tells the true story of Australian circus rider, May Wirth - from her humble beginnings, to becoming the world's most renowned bareback riding performer.

She was born at a time when girls weren't encouraged to take risks, but May wasn't happy to just sit on a circus pony and look pretty - she wanted to amaze crowds with her stunning tricks. So she did!

The book sends kids a beautiful message - particularly to young girls - that they are capable of achieving their wildest dreams. It was written by Simi Genziuk, who spent 20 years of her own life travelling in the circus as a flying trapeze artist. The book is beautifully brought to life with illustrations by Renée Treml  - who has been an avid horseriding fan since she was young (though nothing as daring as May!)
