Eddie Ayres on his new kids' book about music in the time of the Taliban

Part of the Kinderling Conversation for parents. Weekdays 12pm-1pm.

Wed 8 August 2018

11 mins

In 2016 when Eddie Ayres taught music in Kabul, he discovered the power music had to transform lives.

He’s since written a picture book for children called Sonam and the Silence, a beautiful story about one girl and her connection to music. He speaks to Shevonne Hunt about his experiences in Afghanistan, and the fraught history of the Taliban's prohibition of music, and how he turned those into a gorgeous story for children.

For more on Sonam and the Silence check out the Allen and Unwin website.

You will also find information about Danger Music at the Allen and Unwin website.
