Illustrations for picture books are an integral part of the story, creating the atmosphere to spirit young readers away.

Lisa Kennedy's illustrations for Welcome to Country by Senior Elder Aunty Joy Murphy, take us into the land of the Wurundjeri people, filled with river gums and Bunjil the eagle soaring high.

Lisa opens up about the importance of using her work to preserve and celebrate culture.

Lisa is a descendant of the Trawlwoolway people from North-East Tasmania and was inspired by the paintings of ceremony by William Barak, an artist and Elder and leader of the Wurundjeri People.
