Teaching children about Indigenous culture with performer Darren Compton

Part of the Kinderling Conversation for parents. Weekdays 12pm-1pm.

Tue 25 April 2017

13 mins

Darren Compton is a multi-skilled performer, storyteller and a proud descendent of Yuin, Bundjalung, Munanjali, Gamillaraay and the Murray Island nations.

He’s also a dancer in both traditional and contemporary styles like hip hop performing with the Muggera Dancers. Darren has performed across Australia from the Sydney Opera House, to NAIDOC week and the ARIA Awards, and you might know him from the dance series Move it Mob Style on SBS.

Educating  children about tradition and Indigenous culture is deeply seeded in Darren's work, and he sits down with Shevonne to explain how important it is to keep the next generation educated and aware of Australia's Indigenous cultural history.

Listen to some of Darren's stories on our Kinderling app, download here.
