Why we all need to embrace the 'fourth' trimester

Part of the Kinderling Conversation for parents. Weekdays 12pm-1pm.

Tue 25 July 2017

10 mins

Anyone who has had a baby knows all about the three trimesters, but have you heard about the "fourth"?

The fourth trimester follows the idea that during the first months of a baby’s life they are still incredibly vulnerable and dependent.

Annalies Corse is a medical scientist, naturopath and lecturer in Naturopathy at Australasian College of Natural Therapies, who believes that our community needs to get better at supporting parents through this period.

"It's not about having your family there every waking moment," Annalies says, "it's more about this idea of knowing it's a tough time in your life. Just having a five minute conversation with someone, a stranger even, makes so much of a difference."

To see Annalies’ short TED Talk check out the video at the TEDXSydney website at the 7:54:24 mark.
