High Five: Iphupho by Afrika Mamas

Each week Kinderling gives a HIGH FIVE to music, artists, albums and other stuff we think is awesome!

This one’s for you mamas! Our High Five this week is Iphupho, the new album by South African a cappella group Afrika Mamas.

Inspired by Ladysmith Black Mambazo, it’s full of heartfelt stories, real experiences and sublime harmonies sung by the six mothers.

It starts with 'Iphupho', or ‘the dream song’ - focused on their dream to take Afrika Mamas' music to the world. We also hear 'Imbokodo' or ‘Rock’, celebrating the strength of women. Plus there's a flavour of Johannesburg life in 'Amakhekhe', or ‘Cookies/cakes’

A group of women on a mission to break stereotypes, Afrika Mamas not only support a movement, but make stunning music covering every pitch on the musical scale. Want to buy the album? Head to the ARC Music's website.
