Get ready! The Baby-Sitter's Club is coming soon and starring our fave '90s bestie

Kinderling News & Features

Guess who’s back? Back again? Kristy’s back! Tell a friend.

Now that we’ve got you humming along to Eminem, we’re going to do a dramatic pivot and tell you that The Baby-Sitter’s Club is coming to Netflix and this is NOT a drill!

Guess who’s back?!

Netflix has commissioned a ten episode series based on near every ’90s girls fave – those beloved Ann M Martin novels.

The books followed the trials and tribulations of enterprising middle school-aged characters Kristy Thomas, Mary-Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer as they build their babysitting business in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

We’ve already seen this story adapted for both the small and big screen (via the ’90s HBO TV series and the 1995 movie.) Netflix are giving it their reboot treatment partly because — in tough times — everything old is embraced again.

Netflix actually announced this big news back in February, revealing that they had already begun production on The Baby-Sitters Club.

“The themes of The Baby-Sitters Club still resonate 30 years after the original book series was released, and there has never been a more opportune time to tell an aspirational story about empowering young female entrepreneurs,” vice president of Kids & Family at Netflix, Melissa Cobb, revealed in a company statement.

Fast-forward to late last week and Netflix have teased the series on their Facebook account.

“The Baby-Sitters Club is back!” Netflix trilled.

“Get your first look at the new series (and the iconic book cover that inspired the new poster),” the continued, sharing the images below.

So what else do we know about this reboot? We know that it’s being updated to reflect top-of-mind contemporary issues.

“In a bid to keep the TV version as timely as possible, episodes will broach topics including divorce, racism and belonging,” IMBD reports on this new incarnation.

Iconic Clueless alum Alicia Silverstone is slated to play the role of Kristy Thomas’ mum, Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer.

The girls will be played by a slew of diverse and talented young actors: Sophie Grace (Kristy Thomas), Malia Baker (Mary-Anne Spier), Momona Tamada (Claudia Kishi), Shay Rudolph (Stacey McGill), and Xochitl Gomez (Dawn Schafer).

Momona has just starred in Netflix’ To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: PS I Still Love Youplaying the young Lara Jean.

OG The Baby-Sitter’s Club author Ann M Martin is signed up as both a writer and a producer. The showrunner is Rachel Shukert of Glow fame and the series shares an executive producer — Lucia Aniello — with Broad City. It’s fair to say that all the ducks are lined-up for reboot perfection!

We. Can’t. Wait.

You can read more about the new cast at Seventeen. And stay tune for an announcement on when this series will screen. We’re thinking it’s not very far away.
