Sometimes the madness of family life can really take over. Us parents end up walking around in a sleep-deprived cloud, trudging through day by day life. Mindfulness coach Amy Taylor-Kabbaz can totally relate and she's designed our Kinderling Meditations for Parents and Bedtime Explorers to help the whole family relax and refocus.
We ask Amy what life is like for her now with three little ones around.
1. What is your favourite thing about being a mother?
Watching my children learn how to navigate the world with compassion and self-belief. It's the biggest privilege in the world.
2. What’s your favourite thing to do with your children?
Friday night kitchen disco! Also, going to the beach, sitting on a picnic rug under a big tree and just hanging out, showing them the daggy old movies I used to watch as a kid, and travelling. Seeing their little faces in new places, and watching how they grow when in a new environment, is so amazing.
3. What is the thing you miss most about life pre-children?
4. What has been the biggest surprise for you about being a mother?
On the positive: how much it has changed every aspect of my life. There isn't one part of me that hasn't evolved - for the better - since becoming a parent.
On the not so great: how quickly I can loose my temper when I'm overwhelmed and tired. This has been the biggest thing I've had to work on.
5. What does 'me time' look like for you?
Meditation, yoga, exercise, and sleep. I am a sleep addict now. I am still woken by one of my kids almost every night, so I go to bed super early to ensure I'm not a zoombie the next day!
