The Parent Panel: If you're not bored as a parent you're not doing it right

Great podcasts for parents and carers

Writer Kerri Sackville and Busydads founder Grant Lyndon join The Parent Panel to take on the gossip and news of the week that had parents and carers talking.

In this episode they talk about father-daughter relationships, the rules we set as parents that we just will never ever budge on, parenting when the passion is gone in a relationship and the funny things we do in our families that are really just a little bit weird.

Father daughter relationships

This week on Kinderling Conversation Shevonne spoke with author  Madonna King about her book Father and Daughters, helping girls and their dads build unbreakable bonds. Madonna spoke about how important dads are in their daughters lives, especially when they’re teenagers and trying to push them away. Grant has one daughter and three boys and Kerri has two daughters. They talk through how they both navigate their father/daughter relationships and how Kerri ensures a strong relationship between her daughters and her ex-husband.

What are your immovable boundaries

Most parents know that boundaries are important for kids. But there are rules, and then there are rules that were made for breaking. What are your unbreakable rules (or boundaries) and how do you enforce them? How do you deal with the inevitable push back from your boundary-setting?

Parenting when it's boring and the passion is gone

There’s a post that is fairly common on closed Facebook accounts. Women lamenting the loss of passion for a partner who is a good dad and caring husband.  When Shevonne quizzed her friends on Facebook about whether parents should stay together for the kids in this instance, the reactions were mixed. Some said their parents stayed together and made everyone miserable. Others said that passion is something you can work on. Do you think that parents should stay together after the passion is gone?

What is your strangest family quirk?

People took to Reddit this week to share some of their funny and cute family quirks.

Both Kerri and Grant had surprisingly musical traditions in their families, ranging from rapping at the dinner table or singing to get chores done. What is your strangest family quirk?
