The Parent Panel: What do you want for your daughter?

Great podcasts for parents and carers

Journalist Seamus Byrne and decluttering queen and stylist Anita Birges join Shevonne Hunt to take on the news and gossip of the week.

They discuss the crazy things kids do that end up with big consequences for parents, managing work and family life, Keira Knightley versus the Duchess of Cambridge, and how we can celebrate and encourage our girls to be strong.

What is the craziest thing your kid has done with real life consequences?

Parents Ben and Jackee Belnap of Utah had saved $1,000 in cash to pay back a family member for football season tickets. And then their two year old shredded them. Like, proper shredded. In an actual machine.

Apparently there’s a Bureau that can piece the money together, though it could take anywhere between six months and three years. What is the craziest thing your kid has done?

How did you manage work and family life when you had your kids?

This week on Kinderling Conversation  author Christine Armstrong spoke about her book The Mother of Jobs, how to have children and a career and stay sane(ish). She talks about the sometimes impossible feeling of raising children while still maintaining your career (particularly as women). How did you work out who would stay at home at work when you had your first child? Did it change with your second? Do you find the pressure of work and family life conflicts?

Are you Team Kate or Team Keira?

In a book titled Feminists don’t wear pink, and other lies Keira Knightley  wrote about her birth experience, and compared her post-partum experience with Duchess Catherine. The two mums gave birth to daughters only a day apart. Keira thinks that by appearing coiffed and stylish Kate was doing a disservice to women. Part of what she writes is this: “Hide. Hide our pain, our bodies splitting, our breasts leaking, our hormones raging. Look beautiful. Look stylish, don’t show your battleground, Kate.” Do you agree with Keira? Was Kate letting down the team? Or was Keira out of line?

What character traits/ skills do you want your daughters to have to thrive?

This week we celebrated International Day of the Girl, so the panel get into what makes our girls great.
