The Travel Bug by Benjamin Gilmour and James Gulliver Hancock

Thu 31 January 2019

One of our on-air favourites is now being featured as Kinderling's Story of the Week.

"In a land of long grasses,
where small insects crawl,
lived a strange little bug,
with no name at all."

So begins The Travel Bug, a story about friendship, empathy, adventures and one little blue bug's search for identity.

This sweet rhyming book came about when Sydney-born illustrator, James Gulliver Hancock suggested to his friend author, filmmaker and paramedic, Benjamin Gilmour, that they write a book for kids. The two dads agreed, and the very next day after coming home from a graveyard shift, Benjamin sat down to write and out tumbled The Travel Bug story.

These days, the dads are as busy as ever! Benjamin is working on books and films (Jirga, Son of a Lion), while James Gulliver Hancock's fantastically detailed illustrations can be found in books, on walls, in the subway and in exhibitions the world over.

To read along with the excellent illustrations, get your own copy of the book at your favourite bookstore, or online at BooktopiaThe Travel Bug is published by Penguin Random House Australia.
